The setting of the story is mostly in Forks. A lot of the times it is centered around Bella's school, where she talks with her friends like Jessica, Mike, and Angela. Her school is also where she was almost crushed by Tyler Crowley's van, but Edward saved her although he was four cars down. The Cullens are never at school when it's sunny, since they shine in sunlight. Another setting choice is at Bella's house. It's a 2-story, white, paneled house. She lives there with her dad, Charlie. Edward always visits Bella at her house when she's sleeping. He watches her while she sleeps and he comes in through her window. She first dreamt of Edward at her house. The third setting choice would be at the Cullen's spacious, Victorian home, located down a long rode surrounded by woods. Bella visits there and sees that Edward's room has no bed, since vampires can't sleep. He has huge racks of cd's and a large window facing the woods. The Cullens have a large piano, where Edward plays Bella a song inspired by her. The last setting is at the ballet studio in Phoenix that Bella used to go to. Thats where James lures her by using her mother's videos to use as her voice on the phone. It's flled with mirrors and ballet bars, and has an old t.v sitting in the middle of the room. The rising action of this story is when Bella moves to Forks. Everything new is happening to her. New friends, new classes, and a new truck. One of the mini-climax's is when Bella sees the Cullens all walk in the lunchroom. She tries not to be distracted by them, but keeps finding herself looking back at them. The second mini-climax is when Bella, Jessica, and Angela are in Port Angeles trying on dresses for prom. Bella ventures off on her own to a bookstore she had wanted to visit. As she walks out, she goes in the wrong direction down the street and walks for a couple of blocks. As she's waking back the way she came she passes by a group of guys not too much older than her. One said "Hey there" and Bella answered back automatically. A few minutes pass when she realizes that two men from the group are following 20 feet behind her. Soon she is herded to the other men and is trapped with all of them surrounding her. Suddenly, headlight flash around the corner and she realizes its Edward's car. He flips around and she jumps in the car, away from the men. The last mini-climax is when Bella takes Edward to meet her father, Charlie. When she tells him, he's cleaning his gun which makes her a little scared :) She doesnt know if she should introduce him as her boyfriend or something different, but Charlie accepts him and lets her go to play baseball. The actual climax is when James is on the hunt for Bella. He knows she's with Alice and Jasper awaiting their flight to a different state. He says she must get away from Alice and Jasper, and go to her mothers house to find his next clue to where she should meet him. She finds James at the ballet studio and he starts to throw her around and make a video for Edward, so that he will avenge her death. Just as James is about to kill Bella, Edward smashes through the window and fights James off. The rest of his family comes soon afterwards and "takes care" of James. Edward has to suck the venom out of Bella's wrist, and she's left with a crescent scar for the rest of her life. The falling action is when Bella is in the hospital. Her mother comes to visit her, and Edward stays with her while she's there. Apparently she fell down two flights of stairs and out a window trying to get away from Edward and Carlisle as they tried to persuade her to come back to Forks. ![]() |
